What a ride, folks
Once again, it has come time for me to make a page of my "old" performances, like back in the day and all that.
As of daytime on June 22, 2003, I have done 46 performances, taking part in shows at a total of 9 different clubs. I have done 2 full-length shows.
My latest performance schedule
Previous Performance Results:
Saturday, June 21, 9:30pm -- NYC, Nuyorican Poets Cafe
WORDS Open Mic
RESULTS: Wow, what a night! I came to the show dressed in khakis, a shirt and a tie at my friend UnReal's suggestion, and it really paid off! This was just a hot night overall. First of all, I gave out CDs to people, and they were really excited to get them, to the point where I even had people motioning me over and saying they wanted the CDs too. Now, that's the way it should always be, so remember that if you see me and I am offering you free CDs. Then, I hit the stage and people immediately started smiling and getting into it before I even started spitting. I performed the first verse of my track Bad Hair Day, and people really felt it! I then gave out even more CDs to excited audience members, and they all shook my hand, too. It was so much fun.

Open Stage
RESULTS: My girl Julie was definitely in effect, and she took some hot pictures of... me! Also her friend Kim came, plus my boy Dave! It was nice to have all those people there for my lil ol' open mic gig. There should be at least three people coming specifically to see me at *every* open mic gig I do, so please do your best to help make that a tradition for me, aaight? I dropped a few hot joints, including 7 HP, Be Mine, I'm That and Ice, plus I did a funky lil freestyle w/ Jamie Stellini herself. She is very cool. I'm excited to be back there in two weeks!

Monday, June 16, 8pm -- NYC, Sidewalk Cafe
Open Mic
RESULTS: I did Fast Forward. I felt really gratified when one of my friends said that it was not the typical socetew that he expected. I like to change things up once in a while. But someone else said that it was very funny, so I guess it's not such a different track. Another person said that I am always teaching him something new, so that was a nice thing to say. I enjoy being at the Sidewalk Cafe! Lach rules.

End of the Weak Open Mic
RESULTS: After my full-length show at The Sidewalk, I came over to EoW. Outside, it was pretty cool, cuz I ran into some rappers who I was tight with. There is even this one female rapper who is very cute, and she has been friendly with me, so I give her props (even though I'm most likely not interested... sorry--). Inside, it was classic thug rockin', homophobic EoW. I was sad because I saw this one friend of mine whom I hadn't seen here in a long time, and we were like "what's up," and I gave him my new demo CD with Be Mine and H but H on it, but then he got up on stage and made some anti-Semitic remark (how "Jews stack chips", ala Puff Daddy's line) in his verse, and then his friend did a whole verse about how homophobic he is. There are these two attractive rappers who I am not trying to make moves on or anything because I don't know them all that well, but I know that they have quite recently become very good friends with each other, so sometimes I like to pretend that they are going out. I was so nervous about doing the first verse to my new joint "Same 3 Spots"--because it has one very explicit (and gross!) homosexual line--during the Power Cypher at the end that when I performed the verse, I did it very laid back and low-key, and the audience didn't seem as into it as if maybe I had done stuff like moving around and looking at them, perhaps. But I thought I saw a few people look grossed out when I made my one gay line, so that made me a bit happy. The whole verse is about how I never go anywhere in life and always settle into the same patterns with no change. Depressing... but fun!!!! see you lata, love eeloqkutzien ("el.o.cu.tion")

A SECOND REAL FULL-LENGTH PERFORMANCE!!!
RESULTS: For this gig, I literally pulled in my entire own audience from off the street. First I randomly ran into this friend of mine from my dorm in college whom I had never ever seen before in NYC, and I was like,"Hey, I'm doing a show in 30 minutes... come check it out!" And he was with two girls, cuz he's a stud. Then, I ran into another friend of mine from my dorm who actually lived near the Sidewalk Cafe, and she got her friend to come, so that made a total of five. Then, I hollered out to one of my rapper friends who was outside The Pyramid, where End of the Weak occurs, and he dropped by at the end, after he had done his verses at EoW. Plus there were some other people in there near the end who came to see the next band, as well as the man running the sound and lightboard. So, not a packed house, but I would say I delivered an amazing performance nonetheless, and those there really enjoyed it. So maybe people think 10pm on a Sunday is too late? Well, not me!!! Anyway, I'll be doing my next show there on Sunday July 13 at 10pm, so please come because even if it's just you and me, babe, you know it's going to rock.. and it will be all the more personable! love, soce,---

Mind Spray Open Mic
RESULTS: Wow, this was a ton of fun!! First of all, Concept and Leftist are really great guys, so it was cool just to hang out with them. Secondly, all of the performers were aweseome, and it was a very positive atmosphere. Thirdly (okay, enough with the numbers), I was very militant in handing out my CDs and such, so pretty much everyone there got one, plus I broke out the mailing list at the end for the true heads. I did Fast Forward, plus I dropped some stylish cyphers off the top of the dome (my hair? lol) at the closing. I had a great time, and I can't wait to do it again next month! Look out for Concept and his crew... their music is really something else, and they are coming up big time. --eocs

Wednesday, June 11, 8pm -- NYC, Infrared Lounge
Open Stage
RESULTS: My friend Wayne showed up, so that was cool. With Jessica there 3 weeks ago and Mike there 2 weeks back, that makes 1 Yale buddy there 3 out of the last 4 weeks, which ain't half bad. Maybe next week, my Yale buddy Dave will come. Who knows? Besides taking it to the stage myself, some of the highlights of the evening included watching Wayne read his poetry, and then later on when Jamie asked me to freestyle over her "Put it up my Ass" song, so then I did my own fair share of rap-complaining that this unknown hot guy wouldn't put anything up my own ass either. Ah, glorious fun times.

Monday, June 9, 8pm -- NYC, Sidewalk Cafe
Open Mic
RESULTS: I did Enemy Lines. Good stuff! I gave out lots of CDs, got more people to sign up the old email list, checked out some hot guys, and talked to some cool people. It was neat. I met this one girl who both went to Yale with me *and* had gone to the same high school (Hunter College High School) as a bunch of my friends from Yale. They had talked about her singing career for years, so it was cool to finally meet her and see what the buzz was about. Check it out on Sunday, June 15 at 10pm... Sidewalk Cafe!

End of the Weak Open Mic
RESULTS: Well, I came out to EoW by reciting the verses of H but H. I had been dreading and looking forward to that moment for so long, I just had to go do it. All in all, it was quite anti-climactic, because nobody came up to me afterwards and was like, "Oh, you're gay. Cool." They just gave the usual handshakes and told me, "That was dope." A few minutes after I finished busting out my verses, this one guy was on stage freestyling, and he said something to the effect of, "One of those last guys up here was a homosexual. He was rapping about being gay. Almost nobody noticed it. That takes balls." I was very excited to be getting a shout-out, so I jumped around and waved my arms like Cheddar Bob in 8 Mile and was all like, "That's me! I'm the gay one!" But people still didn't seem to get it. In order to stress the point that I really am gay, I made a new sampler that included H but H, as well as Be Mine, another gay track, so maybe the point will slowly sink in over time. I was quite relieved that the rapper on stage did not spew any epithets at me, since he looked pretty tough and mean. In fact, I was so relieved that I came up to him afterwards and started giving him a massage and kissing him, but then he was all like, "Nah, I don't roll like that... not tonight," and then he slashed me open from my left eye to my right toe. Okay, that last sentence is not true. --socetew

Wednesday, June 4, 8pm -- NYC, Infrared Lounge
Open Stage
RESULTS: I released my second official demo CD to the masses, and there was much acclaim. See, the first one has a few different versions, but oh the life of secrecy. Before and after I got on, the DJ played this hot track where with one CD player, he played a techno song, and with the other, he pulled a portion from one of my tracks of me saying my name! It was pretty funny to hear my own voice say "soce,!" a bunch of times. Word. Afterwards, I got to catch a ride back to my place with this cool musician performer songwriter all-in-one guy. Here, I debuted Enemy Lines, as well as doing Ice and Work/Play. fun, hot times

Monday, June 2, 9pm -- NYC, The Underground Lounge
Open Mic
RESULTS: Yo! This time there was a host, which was different. She was spunky, as is expected for pretty much all hosts of open mics. I did Not Wanted and News, and all was well. CD giveaways and all.. plus this time I put the info for my latest gig at The Sidewalk Cafe inside the cases (at Baby Monroe's suggestion), as well as the email list. Yeah, I'm ready and set for this music fun time world!

Sunday, June 1, 9:30pm -- NYC, Pyramid
End of the Weak Open Mic
RESULTS: I performed Ice, a track I just wrote this week. Needless to say, I screwed up a bunch of the words, even though I had it written down on paper right in front of me. Even so, the crowd loved it! One guy said that the beat was "fire." Hot, eh? I put in an interactive part in the chorus for Vice, and he seemed into it. One love of course to Access and Ace of Spades.. good to see y'all again. I also stopped by The Battle Dome at Nuyorican Poets Cafe just to meet the host, Mike G, and scope out my competition. I met some cool people over there, too. All in all, a fun and intense night. On a side note, I am almost positive that I saw The State's Michael Showalter walking down the street near NYU on my way over to the Pyramid. I would've offered him my demo CD, cuz he's really cool, but my reactions were too slow.

RESULTS: If there ever was such a thing as star treatment for unknowns like myself, then I certainly got it! Everyone there is very friendly. I ran into a buddy of mine from Yale. That was a totally neat surprise. I love being at IL, and I look forward to coming back there again and again! best, socetew

RESULTS: I came with my friend Jesse, and we had fun hanging out together that day! After I performed, she gave out CDs for me and got people to sign up on my email list, so that was awesome. Even though introduced I myself as the JGWMC (but used the actual words and not the acronym) and did H but H and I'm That with the extra last section, some people still asked if she was my girlfriend. I guess they just don't get it. I will have to make it excrutiatingly clear my next gig... I have a plan! But yeah, there were a lot of cool people there, and many big fans of my music! So it was great fun to talk to them. Some of them were hot. Some of the guys there were gay.. but I didn't talk to them.
Hey, I hope you noticed that from last Saturday to this Wednesday, I did a performance every night. Yeah, it's been pretty tiring. But fun and totally worth it!!! love, soce, t.e.w.

Tuesday, May 20, 11pm -- NYC, Sidewalk Cafe
A REAL FULL-LENGTH PERFORMANCE!!!
RESULTS: Wow, my first full-length show! It was really something. I had a wonderful time up on stage, yelling all my rhymes at the crowd in full force. There was a decent crowd there, including 9 people I convinced to come out there specifically to see me, so that was really exciting. History in the making folks, history in the muzza-uffin making. I am very happy, as well as being a bit tired and worn out. Check out the Sidewalk Cafe's schedule page and you can see me on the list (for my upcoming show there on Sunday June 15 at 10pm).

RESULTS: I did H but H and Wistful Breeze. I really like taking it to the stage. I feel that the more I do it, the better I can really channel out my feelings for each song and be one with the music (even though mostly I'm rapping and not singing, but the hey, music is music!). I talked to some cool people and had a fun time!

End of the Weak MC Challenge #19
RESULTS: I did a freestyle about how I am doing my gig on Tuesday at the Sidewalk Cafe. I also mentioned that I make beats, as well as rapping in Spanish. Afterwards, I learned that at least one person could understand my crazy flow, because he asked me about my beats, and we may end up working something out, so that is cool! Suddenly, my beat selling business is picking up big time! More on that later. Also, I was really excited, because this one extremely talented and famous rapper said that he enjoyed my demo CD. He said,"You are just being you," and that really meant a lot to me to know that he appreciated the fact that I wasn't trying to come off as being hard or tough or anything that I am not,.. I was just doing my thing and seeing what came of it.

RESULTS: My third performance at the NPC.. a good time! I gave out CDs to people, so that was neat Afterwards, I entered into the Battledome beat producers competition for the first Sunday in August, so that should be interesting. RESULTS: I performed Just Because for the first time. I think it got some smiles and looks of confusion, because the chorus is much more up-front than many of the songs you will hear on the radio. Although the version of this song that I may do at other clubs may be different, so you have been forewarned. At each of these last few gigs, I have been giving away around 60+ CDs. Wow! That means I spend a lot of time burning and labelling new demo CDs. I may try to hire out a service to do that for me to hopefully save some time and money. I'm all about saturating the market.

End of the Weak Open Mic
RESULTS: I did News there. People enjoyed it. It was funny, because afterwards, many were like,"Wow. That was some hot new music." Whereas that is one of the first songs that I recorded in my home studio, about half a year ago, so it seems really old to me... but hey, if people have never heard it before, then it *is* new to them, so there. Plus I guess some of the other songs I do are even older.. but then again, I am over 400 years old myself, so what's a year here and there? And other of my songs, such as 7 HP, Enemy Lines, Fast Forward and I'm That, are super brand new and not even fully recorded yet.

Music Industry Talent Showcase/Open Mic
RESULTS: After a long and exciting day where I sold licenses to many of my beats, I arrived at Downtime at around 10:30pm. I got to meet a bunch of awesome performers and agents, and then I hit the stage at around 3:30am to do one song. I got home and fell asleep at about 5am, and I have been exhausted ever since.

Wednesday, May 7, 8pm -- NYC, Infrared Lounge
Open Stage
RESULTS: I had a really fun time at the ol' lounge. It was funny, because I was doing this one track, Wistful Breeze, and I was sort of bouncing/swaying back and forth, and there was this big guy sitting and listening, and he was also swaying back and forth to the music. Once I noticed that, I made a concerted effort to bounce and sway differently than he was, because I didn't want it to seem like I was trying to have us bounce and sway together. That would have been cool if we were like BFFs (ie Best Friends Forever[z]), but since we weren't, I didn't want it to seem weird. :)

Monday, May 5, 8pm -- NYC, Sidewalk Cafe

RESULTS: It was really fun! I performed HATAH and Work/Play. This one guy gave me a hug afterwards. I chilled with some of the other performers later in the evening. It was neat to hang out with them. I see big things for all of us in the future... good times, --eocs
