Wow, I'm Still Here
Wow. Again, it's been quite something. Fun time. Kiss kiss. The next time you see me, please purchase my full-length album. Right now, I'm selling it in person at the performances for just $8!!
As of daytime on August 13, I have done 66 performances, taking part in shows at a total of 14 different clubs. I have done 3 full-length shows.
My latest performance schedule
Latest Performance Results:
Monday, August 11, 8pm -- NYC, Sidewalk Cafe
Open Mic
RESULTS: Great times!!! I did News, followed by 1-2-3-4-5, and people were really feeling the sicked-out party vibe. As has happened in many of my previous gigs, money exchanged hands for my CDs. It always feels nice to get dough directly from the crowd. I was happy also because two of my college classmates showed up, scoping it out to perform there, plus I got a chance to chill w/ my man "Petey" Pablo.

End of the Weak Open Mic
RESULTS: Lately, I mostly stop by End of the Weak to get my poly on (ie., politicking). Everyone there by now knows that I make the hottest beats on the planet, so they are more than ready to use them. Plus they all pay me the big bucks too, so it has been quite profitable. When I hit the stage for the Power Cypher, I busted out my verse about how I am the greatest video game player of all times. People started clapping when they suddenly realized that all those names I was shouting out were names of video games. Plus I got some claps at the end of my verse to for a job well done. It was very fun!! Love, socetew

Open Mic
RESULTS: It was a fun time! Tuesday, the host, is really cool. First, I wowed them with my happy melodies in Broken Heart. Then, I literally knocked one guy off his seat with my scandalous lines in my new track 1-2-3-4-5, which is fun because it has a lot of crowd participation in it. In that track, I talk about making the hottest beats "evar" (sic) plus how I am a bit "ghey" (also sic).

Guerrilla Words
RESULTS: This was a hot event! There were a lot of people here, and lots of chairs and couches, so it was a chill atmosphere. I debuted my track 1-2-3-4-5, where I talk about being gay and how I am a cool, silly guy and how I make hot beats that are good, so it's a nice promotional type of ditty. Some people afterwards thought the beat was hot and wanted to work with me, so hopefully we'll hook up soon enough. People cheered a lot at the very beginning, when I rapped really fast. I'll have to do some more fast stuff and figure out how to tweak it for maximum applause.

Open Mic
RESULTS: After the OUTLOUD! open mic, I thought I would go here. It was fun to see all of my ol' AF'er friends. I maybe should have left earlier, since I needed to make more demo CDs this morning and ended up staying up late and only getting around 2.8 hours of sleep. But hey, that's what you gotta do in this business. I had thought I was all this big man and such for having done two open mics in one night, but then I ran into this stand-up comedian whom I had previously seen and enjoyed his act at The Underground Lounge's open mic, and he said that he had gone to *three* open mics that night! Wow. --eocs

Outmusic OUTLOUD! Open Mic
RESULTS: I met up with a bunch of friends, so it was really fun to hang out with them. The C-Note was rather small, but it was a nice, quaint atmosphere, and it is always nice to branch out a bit. The host gave me kudos after I announced that I had performed the H but H Remix at a homophobic hip hop open mic (ie EoW; you know I love my Eo-Dubs :). Good times.. smooth! --socetew

BATTLE DOME Beat Competition Producers Battle
RESULTS: I did not make it past the first round, but I had a blast! Mike G promoted my demo CD--esp my track Feels Good--so that ruled, plus a bunch of people told me they really liked my beat, so hopefully I will gain some new artists to work with. Afterwards, I caught the EoW afterparty and chilled w/ some of the cool MCs there.

The Open Road Open Mic
RESULTS: Big stage! It felt like a big venue, except where were my thousands of groping fans? lol, j/k. There were lots of hot guys there! Whrof. I performed Work/Play, Broken Heart and Fast Forward. One guy said that he enjoyed my falsetto and another said he really dug Fast Forward, so those were both gratifying comments. There were two stand-up comics who were pretty funny. I did the usual handing out of many CDs, placing of stickers in various spots and collecting emails for the ol' email list, whar. --socetew

Open Mic
RESULTS: I dropped the H but H Remix here, yeah, gave out plenty of CDs and got more emails for my magic Lizt. It was a neat-o time. The bomb of surprises occurred for me when I discovered that Dan Fishback, legend of legends amongst Duke's Men of all ages, was performing here!! That was a total shocker! We talked a bit afterwards, so that was fun. aight, lata--eocs

Password Open Mic
RESULTS: I got a chance to chat up with the hosts a good amount, so that was really fun! They are really cool people, and I enjoyed chilling with them. At the end, we took turns dropping freestyles, and I had a great time doing that also. Of course, I did not talk about the gayness. I figured we didn't know each other so well, so I would give it a moment-- peace, eocs

End of the Weak Open Mic
RESULTS: I did the H but H Remix. Yeah, you know the beat is tight. I got something close to silence when I finished. Hmmm... my boys gave me pounds of course. Afterwards I ran into this other MC, and she said that she heard that my track was mad controversial and asked if it was a gimmick, and I said,"No, it's not a gimmick. I'm really GAYYYYYYYY! And the funny thing is that I have been dropping gay verses for the past few months and no one noticed until now." I had even dropped the verses to H but H back on June 8--which was when I first started doing gay verses at EoW, so that was about a month and a half.. I guess it takes time. I feel like people need to know that gay people, esp rappers, really do exist. I'm SURE I'm not the only gay person at all of these hip hop open mics. Man, it's crazy, yo. Well, I have a good time dropping it, and I don't feel like lots of the cats there had really cared about me before, so at least they will remember me, even if they're angry and confused. Although one rapper had come up to me earlier just to tell me that he listened to Not Wanted every day, so that's sweet!! aight, peace--socetew

Mindspray Open Mic
RESULTS: I had called up Concept that day to see what was new with him, and he said that his once-a-month open mic Mindspray was going on tonight, so of course, I had to come through and represent!! I dropped the H but H Remix. I'm always a bit nervous about dropping a track like H but H to a crowd of strangers, but hey, it's one of those things I just gotta do, and in the end, I seemed to get an unusually large amount of applause and cheering for the amount of people left in the room, so it must have gone over well! So far at the hip hop open mics, nobody has come up to me afterwards and been like, "Oh, your GAY. Well, that's cool," but sometimes I wish they would. It was all good, though, because there was this extremely hot guy there, and I hugged him *twice*. He smiled, probably thinking "Wow, this guy is so gay and clearly wants me," but he hugged me all the same, so he couldn't have been that freaked out. I'm just a lil friendly guy anywayz, what harm could I possibly do? yeh--

Sunday, July 20, 8pm -- NYC, Micky's Blue Room
Open Mic
RESULTS: Look, see? I won this time. There was great talent performing and cool people in the bar. When I first took the mic, it was like dead silence, because everyone was like, "Who is this guy?" (except for the people who had seen me at The Infrared Lounge). But when I started busting out my brand new H but H Remix (beat recorded *that* *day*!!!), people definitely took notice and were like, "Yeah!!" It was definitely uplifting to see the room turn from pretty much empty to people-filled as heads took note that something special was going on and came in to see what was happening. I then followed it up with Fast Forward.. also super cool. Afterwards, I talked to their booking agent and got a gig there at 9pm on Wednesday, September 10!! Wow, open mics rule. Take care, socetew

WORDS Open Mic
RESULTS: You can't always win!! Actually, a lot of good came out of this gig, because I met Ace of Spades, and he hooked me up with a bunch of hot hip hop contacts. It's always a please to see him, because he is so incredibly hard working at his own thing that it totally inspires me to stay on the grind myself. As for the actual performance, it was the typical "people afterwards tell me they enjoyed it, but almost nobody applauds or cheers when I'm on stage" type dealie. Nah, well. I got more emails for my email list, as well as giving away some CDs, so yeah, that was cool. Plus my man UnReal was there, and he dropped some hot bars.

Open Mic
RESULTS: It was great! I had a lot of fun being there. I met a bunch of cool, new guys, and I had a good time talking to them. This one guy put one of my stickers on his guitar, and then he even mentioned it while on stage!!! That raised up my ego, no doubt. There were some hot guys there. I didn't actually talk to them of course (I'm way to shy, and they are probably straight), but I will admit that I threw a couple of glances in their direction. Wroahr! I performed Broken Heart, followed by its rap remix, Be Mine. People definitely laughed after many of my lines, so that was exciting. Afterwards, I saw this guy and--even though I don't think he was gay himself--he said that he liked me better now that he knew I was gay. That was just total music to my ears!! I guess that much better than if he had said, "I actually like you a lot *less* now that I know you're gay," lol. But nah, he said he liked the music on my demo CD. I even sold a few copies of the 2 demo CD bundle for $5 each!!! A lil extra money never hurts, and those people were really excited about listening to it when they got home, so yay!! love, eocs

End of the Weak Open Mic
RESULTS: I almost chickened out and did a different verse, but in the end, I stuck to my guns (as it were) and did the verse I wrote for the remix I did to Jamie Stellini's song Leave Me Alone where I am rapping about my anger at a man who makes out with me but won't have sex with me. It's funny, because it's not a true situation, but regardless, I let me rage at this fictional man reach a boiling point and just yelled and screamed my fury out onto the crowd at EoW. And you know what? They totally ate it up!!! I got way more props from people than usual. I guess a lot of people can relate to sexual frustration.. maybe they didn't hear the gay lines, or maybe they heard but didn't understand that they were gay, or else they just didn't care. I was happy to get such glowing smiles. See, I am an actor! I can get angry for no reason and convince them that I'm rapping about a real person. Yay. Love, socetew

A THIRD REAL FULL-LENGTH PERFORMANCE!!!
RESULTS: My fiftieth performance in NYC. I had a great time. The crowd was hot, there were many gay guys in the audience, and I got a chance to talk a bit with Dutchboy. What more could one ask for? I did all sorts of neat songs and freestyles, and the crowd even sang along during the choruses of many of my tracks, such as Work/Play, 7 HP, Not Wanted, Be Mine...

Open Stage
RESULTS: I delivered Jamie Stellini (the host) a remix of one of her songs, Leave Me Alone, where I put on a beat and my own rhymes at the frustration of my unrequited lust, to put it succinctly. People enjoyed it! Yay. I also performed S&S (Sunlight and Shadow) plus Wistful Breeze, and that went over well also. This one man I had only met a week ago told me, "I've figured it out! This is your world, and we only live in it," since he saw that the crowd was always the most excited during *my* sets. That was really nice of him to say! Thanks! aight, take care, socetew

Open Mic
RESULTS: My tracks were Your Body and I'm That. I ain't gonna front. I simply smashed it. It was great fun. I love doing I'm That. I oughta do it more often.. word! There were, in fact even more Yalies this time. It's a bit funny because in I'm That, I talk about going to Yale, which is still unusual for a rapper, but at this particular open mic event, I was the third Yalie act of the night to take it to the stage, but hey! So yeah, it was great fun. Aight, peace. --eocs

End of the Weak Open Mic
RESULTS: Whoops, one more time (assuming you are reading upwards). I gave Mike, the soundman, a background CD that did not work in his CD player, and then I gave him a CD that *did* have my beat, but only up to halfway through the second verse of the track, even though I had another backup CD with the full track on me (but I was feeling so frazzled that I reached in my bag and pulled out the wrong one). Nah well, the audience still ate up what I gave them nonetheless. They were really quite packed and hot this evening, which was cool, but it just added a bit to my nervousness and stress. I just gotta tell myself that mistakes happen, and next time I will hopefully give Mikey CDs that work, but if I don't, I will have an extra CD all ready, or even give it to him in advance. But I broke out the email list and collected some names, gave away CDs and got a hot quote about my music from the one and only Breez Evahflowin. Check it out on my new artist page, coming soon :)
Other good things that happened: When I finished my verse, the host said something to the effect of,"Give it up for socetew. In addition to rapping, he danced for y'all." Which was true. I was very excited when my correct beat finally came on that I jumped up and down a lot to the rhythm of the track, and I think that got the crowd hyped... maybe even a bit too much, but I would say the beat was pretty hot, without a doubt. Also, as I was getting off stage, one of my peeps shouted,"Mazel tov!" Ah, nothing like love for Jews. Later on in the night, when I was up near the stage, this other well respected rapper rested his elbow on my shoulder. I'm not sure if he did it cuz I'm his boy or because he needed a second to rest, but regardless, it made me feel tres special, although I wasn't sure if I was supposed to somehow acknowledge it, so I just keep standing there, trying to seem like I was some sort of buff stud.

MC Challenge #20
RESULTS: I had fun. The best part was when the hosts instructed us to turn toward the people around us and shake hands. That was just so cool and filled me up with a good warm feeling inside [[please, try to keep your minds out of the gutter, *this* time]]. Also, I was instrumental in it happening, because one of the challengers, Gun Powder, was outside when it was his turn to rhyme, so when everyone stood there frozen, *I* was the one guy who actually went outside to pull him back in. It was kind of like when Cheddar Bob called Eminem up to the stage at The Shelter in 8 Mile; except where Bob was all kind and friendly, I said something more like,"Hey Gun Powder, they're calling you. Get your ass up on stage!"
As we waited outside at the start, people got excited at the stickers I was giving away with my CDs, and they hyped up how awesome my beats and rhymes were, so that is always fun! My ego was soaring. As far as I'm concerned, the night was a real winner for me, not only due to all of the above, but in addition, I got picked to be in the rhyme-off in order to compete for a slot in the MC Challenge. Plus I got a free DJ Scram Jones mixtape in addition to the one I bought from him. And I finally got a chance to tell him how awesome I thought his rapping was, because seriously, he kicks some incredible and hilarious similes and metaphors, plus strings together multiple syllables like nobody's business. It's so funny; I was nervous during the rhyme-off! My voice got really high, and I didn't do my usual bouncing all over the stage, plus I ran out of breath. But for the second half of my verse, I got some crowd reaction after each of my stanzas, so that was hot. And when it was the audience's turn to vote for me by show of applause, the people who *did* cheer for me cheered really loudly, so that was cool.
There was no way that I would have won, because I was competing against rap afficionado Big Nef, and he not only has great skills but also a big following. It's all good, though, because he is a great guy so I was definitely psyched for him to make it into the challenge. If I was smarter, I would have signed up in the bracket that he was *not* signed up in, so that at least I could have had more of a chance... but I don't think it would have mattered in the end. Even though I don't see myself as MC Challenge material, I enjoy trying to get into it, because I think it builds up my skills and helps me come up with new and intriguing verses for the next time I try to get in. Alright, enough about that. But yeah, it was cool. Take care, eocs
